Hot Rod Garage Glossary

To really be engaged in the hobby, you have to know what folks are talking about.

Most hobbies, sports, or professions, have their own lingo attached to them. Hot Rodding is no different. The veteran hot rod enthusiasts already know the jargon, and most likely assume that everyone else knows it, too. Often, when people new to the hobby are at a cruise night, rod run, or car show and don't understand the hot rod talk, they will simply nod as if they understand. After all, nobody wants to appear stupid by continously asking what certain terms mean. Everyone, even the most experienced expert, has been a novice at one time. They all have taken the time to learn the jargon. And they've become more proficient at communicating with other hot rod enthusiasts.

Since Hot-Rod-Garage.com is here to help, we offer the following glossary. When possible, we've included an illustration along with the definition in order to make our discription clearer. Please note that some of the photos may show more than what is actually being discussed, but our goal remains to help the novice hot rodder, and we hope that the photos enhance the explanation, rather than complicate it.

This list is not all inclusive. As we pick up on new developments or hear about some terms we might have missed, we'll be adding those items to this glossary.
